Dr. Balakrishnan earned her veterinary degree in India, then moved to the US to further her training. Following an internship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she completed a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania. She then served as faculty in the Emergency and Critical Care Department at the Ohio State University before joining CUVS in 2016. She is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.
Dr. Balakrishnan has outstanding training in both emergency care and in managing critical patients. Her clinical and research interests include respiratory critical care and septic shock. She has lectured and published in these areas, and continues to study various ways to assess and improve oxygenation in this population of critically ill animals.
Dr. Balakrishnan believes strongly in being able to provide state-of-the-art management for critically ill pets while always keeping in mind the quality of life of the pet and goals of the family. She brings a combination of extraordinary competence and compassion to every interaction.
